This is a fan site for Descoware–a brand of enamel cookware made until the mid-seventies. The enamelware was originally manufactured as “Bruxelles Ware” with the Descoware name coming from the American import company D.E Sanford Co. The brand was popularized by the wonderful Julia Child, who was kind enough to recommend products without endorsement fees. All are welcome and if you have an interest in Descoware– toss your two cents in. Your email stays safe, no spam here. Please be kind and enjoy your stay. The “Author” has no commercial interest except his own small collection. There are some ads on the site and most years those ads pay for the hosting and nothing more.

Please email pictures if you have some! info-at- descoware.com and YES pictures with food in the piece is good!

The buttons on the right (and top) will move you around the site. Mostly words at the top–pictures on the right.

My husband purchased a small turquoise frying pan at a Goodwill. The Markings on the bottom are Descoware Special Made in Belgium. Above that are the markings of B1-B 21 C. Is this a rare find and is what is the approximate value? Thank you.

Wow interesting, I didn’t knew anything about descoware, until 2 days ago when I bought a mint condition 24cm dutch oven one on a flea market. I paid about 3usd……. guess I was lucky.

I just bought a 9 piece set of Desoware today. It’s a Lemon yellow color and has all the handles. One lid is missing a knob and I need to see if that can be replaced… Will have pics soon so you can see what the set looks like. It’s in great condition with only one chip on the outside of the larger pot.

I have a yellow pot with the letters “2H, 16, A” molded into it: The lid also
has letters molded into it; they are “FE, 16, 2-H “. “BELGIUM” is molded
d into both pieces. How old could this set be? If anyone knows, please let
me know. I was told that it is extremely rare by antique dealer. What’s
    the truth?

    Hi there,
I have a pan that measures 14 1/4″ L x 8 3/4″ W and is 2″ deep. It is orange on the outside and white on the insde. It has handles at both ends and is made of cast iron and enamel (of course). My question is, can this piece be a Descoware piece if there are absolutely no markings on it what-so-ever? I dont know if there was ever a lid to this piece or not, but either way, I dont have one if there was. I am wondering how to tell who made this pan. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME? 🙂

I just bought what sounds exactly what you described at an estate sale,

I have a number of pieces of Descoware made in Belgium that I have had since 1956. Only one piece is in near mint condition — a 3 compartment baking dish — which I don’t use. Most of the wooden handles have come off of the saucepan and skillets but I still use them. I think Decoware was the best cookware ever made.

  13. Maria says:

You may be able to replace the handles if you visit the website Etsy.com. I noticed someone there makes the wood replacement handles for the Creusets. Worth a try.

    Hi Kevin:
Thanks for creating this site. I found a flame orange, size 16-2-H round Descoware Dutch oven that I purchased back in the 70’s buried deep in my pantry. It’s in great shape but is lacking a lid. I just purchased a yellow lid until I can locate a reasonably priced matching flame orange one. If anyone has a lid this size who wants to sell it, I’d appreciate your contacting me at jglevin11@yahoo.com.
I’ve used my new found friend several times already, making stews, chili, roast chicken, etc and everything has turned out great. I love it.

  15. The bottoms of the pieces get worn out and abused–and that leaves a very nice lid. The only reasonable source is eBay… which is very reliable over time.

A buddy was moving and cleaning out his kitchen. Knowing that cooking is a passion of mine and I am an ardent purveyor of thrift store kitchen implements, he asked if I wanted a “box of kitchen stuff He (I) no longer use.” Replying quickly and eagerly with a resounding “YES” I stopped by his place and picked up my box of “stuff.” Lo and behold, there were not one, not two but THREE pieces of Descoware cookware! A large skillet 2 inches deep, and both a small and medium sized pots with wooden handles and lids. I know of Descoware from my thrift store pursuits but had yet to acquire any, until now. I am happily using my new found quite stylish Descoware for all things culinary. I look forward to many years of cooking with this most excellent, high quality kitchenware.

I have the orange belgium cookware and was pasted down to me from my passing mother. I have a question for you how in the world does one get the stains out from it and if you have any ideas please e-mail me on that.

I do wish you well in finding a match top for yours and I will keep your e-mail if my bottom pot does get dropped or cracked for you to have the top orange in color.

  18. joanmarie says:

Hi, I have a full set of Descoware given to me as a gift when I was 18 years old-I just turned 63! And I have added numerous pieces over the years.
Most of the time the stains can be removed by putting warm water and a good dose of Clorox bleach inside the pot. Let it soak a long time. If it fails the first time around-try again using a stronger bleach/water ratio.
Then just give the pan a good scrubbing with soap till you can not smell the bleach.
I have done this with all my pots over the years-and they all look new-inside and out.
Stains or built up grease on the outside can be removed by using some Bon Ami , which will not scratch. I have tried many things over the years and this is the most reliable and safe.
Enjoy your pots and the memories attached-

  19. B Woodman says:

    RE: Removing stains from enamaled cast iron ware;
What JoanMarie said, plus heat it on the stove top on low to medium heat. This “activates” the clorox more, and removes the deep stains better & faster.

    Good luck.

  20. D says:

I too had handles coming off. I simply found a machine shop that could turn a handle for me and he was happy to make one. It it was great. I did have him just glue it in the pot so no more cooking in the oven.

I have two small covered roasters in Flame. They have white interiors.
Both are marked Made in Belgium and DescoWare. I have to down size and can no longer handle the heavier cookware. How can I determine a fair value if I decide to sell these?

I have a piece of Descoware which is alligatored–tiny criss-cross lines all over the bottom of the inside. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a piece of his Le Crueset, and the company replaced it free of charge. Any chance of Descoware doing the same thing for me?

    Thanks,

    Hi Kevin,
I have a Descoware 4 qt yellow oval pot, (enamel inside and out) passed on to me from my mother in law. She said she only used in on the stove top. I’m thinking it’s actually a roaster. I would like to use this pot in the oven, can I do this?
    Thank you!

  26. Only if the oven is hot! Yes, it’s fine for baking–you are right: roaster. [sorry for the late reply… vacation.]

  28. In that case, you might decide to have one for home, and one to take along, and there
are a number of them that are conveniently attached to
key chains for just such a reason. I think this kit is really awesome for any type of cook and families that
are looking for a really solid block. The family business was incorporated in 1900 as Case Brothers Cutlery Company, and the brand has
been an industry standard since that time.

Hello, I am looking to buy a Descoware dutch oven and am confused by the sizing. I would like one in 6qt or larger. What markings should I bee looking for or what dimensions will get me to this size? Thank you for any help or advice.

  31. Judith Woodbury says:

I had been using my descoware , (7″ flame covered saucepan)for several years when I noticed that the white enamel inside was chipping. I assumed it was because it got too hot before I put in the uncooked vegetable. I never dropped it. Now, after reading your blogs I see that quick changes of temp. so long as the pan is not heated over 350, is OK. Yes, I have used bleach to clean it, but not often. Can anyone tell me why this happened? Is it OK to use it partially chipped? I have a replacement now, but would like to take good care of it. Did the company sell it with directions for use? This is simply wonderful cookware.

We have a Descoware fry pan, and cover, in the nice light blue, with darker flower shape decorating both lid and base. (#24). The wooden handle would not budge, making it unusable in the oven of course. My engineer husband removed the ring at the end of the handle and hit it with a hammer, which dislodged rust(!) inside and the handle came off easily. Someone else may have the same problem, and this is a simple fix.

I have a orange descoware dutch oven with lid and the numbers on bottom are 2 h 16 FE belgium. Also i have a very clean cast iron portable burner for it. This is almost perfect condition on outside and is beautiful. A little wear inside but white glaze is still intact. I saw that this may be a rare find in the descoware collectors’ world. Would you be willing to give me an idea of what price i should put on it?
I’d keep it for camping but really can use the cash this winter. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks have a great day.
